GARDEN THERAPY
Jane Talarico, a Master Gardener and member of our club, started weekly work
sessions at Frederick’s Baker Park, working with developmentally challenged
students from Frederick High School’s “Lear For Life” program. It is a joint
program with the City of Frederick and Frederick High School. The goal is to teach the students how to maintain gardens in Baker Park so that they know how to weed, mulch and plant flowers and bulbs. Hopefully there will be money to find jobs for the students when they leave high school.
It has been a rewarding experience for the students and the members of Tasker’s Chance that have been involved. This past year, our club was proud to receive the Garden Therapy Special Recognition Award and the Central Atlantic Region Award (meduim club category)-The Jean Ladson Outstanding Achievement Award.
